About Us

The Centre for Widows and Children Assistance (CWCA) is a non-partisan, non-profit making and non-governmental human rights organization with its main Office at Kariakoo area, Sikukuu Street within Ilala Municipality in Dar es Salaam- Tanzania (East Africa) and has a branch at Mara region.

It was formed sometimes in July 2003 and legally registered on 17th day of February 2005 under the Companies Ordinance (now Act,) Cap. 212 of the laws of Tanzania as a charitable entity without shares limited by guarantee with the registration number 51556. The Centre, however, obtained a Certificate of Compliance (0757) as an NGO at the Vice President Office United Republic of Tanzania, to operate in Tanzania Mainland.

It was founded by the human rights activists namely Ms. Utti A. Mwangamba, Ms. Suzan Makatte, Ms. Martha Kisyombe and Mr. Issa Maige, after observation of the increase of human rights abuses to the widows, orphans and most vulnerable children in the context of culture, patriarchal system and ignorance of the law.
